Elon Musk Hints at Reviving Vine Following TikTok Ban in the U.S.

Elon Musk has suggested that he is considering bringing back Vine, the once-popular short-form video platform, following the TikTok ban that affected millions of users in the U.S. over the weekend.

Musk, who owns social media rival X, responded to a post on his platform late Saturday from a user who wrote, “I think it’s time to bring it back @elonmusk,” alongside an image of Vine’s logo. Musk’s response? “We’re looking into it.”

Could Vine Make a Comeback?

Vine, which pioneered six-second looping videos, was shut down in 2016 after struggling to compete with platforms like Instagram and Twitter (now X). However, with TikTok facing legal and regulatory challenges, users have been calling for Vine’s return as a potential alternative.

Following TikTok’s sudden blackout on Saturday night, many users took to X to urge Musk to revive Vine, with one person writing, “Bringing back the original Vine??? That would be awesome!!!”

The renewed interest in Vine comes after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a ban on TikTok on Friday. The ruling backed legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden in April, effectively cutting off access to the Chinese-owned platform for millions of American users.

With TikTok now unavailable, the social media landscape is shifting rapidly. Musk’s hint at reviving Vine could signal a major shake-up in the short-form video space, giving users and creators a potential new home.
