Google has expanded its Deep Research feature to iOS devices, giving Gemini Advanced subscribers a powerful AI-driven tool for organizing information. Originally launched on Gemini’s web portal in December and rolled out to Android users earlier this month, the feature is now available to iPhone users who rely on Gemini for in-depth research.

Deep Research takes Google search beyond link collection, scanning and summarizing information from multiple sources to provide a structured, research-based response. As Gemini’s first “agentic” feature, it doesn’t just answer questions—it actively conducts research, refining its findings in real-time.
To use the feature, Gemini Advanced subscribers can select “1.5 Pro with Deep Research” in the model list within the Gemini app. Once a research question is entered, the AI outlines a step-by-step research plan, allowing users to tweak the focus before proceeding. Gemini then performs multiple searches, compiles key insights, and delivers a structured report with sources, sections, and tables where needed. Users can even export results directly to Google Docs.
Deep Research takes five to ten minutes to complete, depending on the topic’s complexity. Google has placed daily limits on research requests, preventing users from outsourcing unlimited tasks. Currently, the tool runs on Gemini 1.5 Pro, though Google has hinted it may transition to 2.0 Pro once the model leaves its experimental phase.
Bringing Deep Research to iPhones signals Google’s increasing focus on Gemini as a productivity tool, positioning it as a more comprehensive AI assistant rather than just a chatbot. With competitors like OpenAI, Meta, and Apple developing similar AI-driven assistants, Google is betting that Deep Research will make Gemini indispensable for users navigating vast amounts of online information.
