On Thursday, OpenAI announced the release of a research preview for its latest model, GPT-4.5, exclusively for its Pro users and developers worldwide. The company revealed plans to gradually expand access to more users in the upcoming weeks.

What’s New in GPT-4.5?
GPT-4.5 introduces several significant enhancements over its predecessors:
- Better Pattern Recognition: The model demonstrates an improved ability to detect and understand patterns, allowing it to generate more insightful and creative responses.
- Greater Emotional Intelligence: GPT-4.5 is designed to better recognize emotional cues in conversations, enabling it to engage in more nuanced and empathetic interactions.
- Improved Accuracy: One of the standout features of GPT-4.5 is its reduced rate of hallucinations (instances where the model generates false or misleading information). Its hallucination rate has dropped to 37.1%, a significant improvement compared to GPT-4’s 61.8% and the GPT-3.5 model’s 44%.
GPT-4.5 supports file and image uploads and can also work on writing and coding projects, but does not currently support other advanced features such as voice and video.

Starting next week, GPT-4.5 will be rolled out to ChatGPT Plus and Team users. The following week, Enterprise and Edu users will gain access.
CEO Sam Altman called it “a giant, expensive model,” saying the company ran out of GPU capacity to roll out to user tiers at the same time.
“We will add tens of thousands of GPUs next week … this isn’t how we want to operate, but it’s hard to perfectly predict growth surges that lead to GPU shortages,” he said in a post on X.
