Nintendo Switch 2 Could Cost Over $400, Set to Be the Biggest Console Launch Ever

A recent Bloomberg report, citing multiple analysts and investors, suggests that Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 could be priced above $400, making it the company’s most expensive console ever. Despite this high price point, the analysts predict that the Switch 2 will have an incredibly successful launch, potentially breaking records as the biggest video game industry debut in history.

According to Takashi Mochizuki’s report, analysts who regularly communicate with Nintendo and its partners believe the Switch 2’s price will be at least $400. Factors like US tariffs could further increase that price. If true, the Switch 2 would surpass the $350 Wii U Deluxe, which, adjusted for inflation, would cost about $484 today.

Even with a higher price tag, analysts expect the Switch 2 to sell out rapidly, especially in its early months. Tokyo-based industry analyst Serkan Toto believes the console will have a blockbuster lineup of games in its first year, driving massive demand. Titles like a new Mario Kart, 3D Mario after an eight-year gap, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4 are expected to be key draws. The console will also launch with solid third-party support, including major franchises like Call of Duty.

Industry analyst Robin Zhu from investment firm Sanford C. Bernstein predicts that the Switch 2 will launch in June with an inventory of 6 to 8 million units on day one. If these estimates hold, it would surpass the PS5’s launch numbers, which saw 3.4 million units sold in its first four weeks. Macquarie Capital analyst Hiroshi Yamashina expects the Switch 2 to sell around 20 million units in its first year, with a price between $399 and $449.

Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda even speculated that the Switch 2 could retail for as much as $499 due to increased manufacturing costs, particularly for its new processing chip. When the original Switch launched in 2017, it was priced at $299, which, adjusted for inflation, would be approximately $388 today.

Nintendo is expected to reveal more about the Switch 2 in its April 2025 Direct.
