Apple’s rumored ultra-thin “iPhone 17 Air” is expected to feature a major upgrade: 12GB of RAM, according to the latest insights from respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a blog post published today, Kuo revealed that not only the iPhone 17 Air, but also the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will be equipped with 12GB of RAM. Previously, he anticipated only the Pro Max model would receive the boost, making this update welcome news for those considering the other models.
Kuo also mentioned that Apple is evaluating whether to equip the base-model iPhone 17 with 12GB of RAM as well, although this will depend on whether current supply chain constraints can be resolved. A final decision on RAM for the standard model is expected by May.
For context, every model in the current iPhone 16 lineup comes with 8GB of RAM. Upgrading to 12GB across the iPhone 17 series would represent a significant leap in memory capacity, potentially enhancing performance for Apple Intelligence features and enabling smoother multitasking.
Even if the base iPhone 17 retains 8GB, Kuo predicts that Apple will standardize 12GB of RAM across the entire iPhone 18 lineup.
This RAM increase is also expected to benefit Apple’s key memory suppliers, including Micron and SK Hynix.
Apple is anticipated to officially unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September.
