Samsung is currently in the midst of the public beta testing phase for One UI 7, based on Android 15. This latest iteration of Samsung’s user interface is expected to make its official stable debut alongside the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, which is set to be unveiled on January 22.
Following this launch, the update will gradually roll out to older Samsung devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 family. And speaking of the Galaxy S24, a new post from renowned Chinese leaker Ice Universe on X has shared some exciting news about the improvements in fingerprint unlocking speed on these upcoming devices.
Ice Universe highlights that the fingerprint unlocking speed on the Galaxy S24 models is significantly faster than its predecessor. Not only has the sound improved, but the unlocking process itself is now noticeably quicker.
“Not only the sound is clearer, but also the fingerprint unlocking speed is extremely fast, which is faster than the previous version.” — Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) January 2, 2025
The Technology Behind Faster Unlocking
The S24 devices are equipped with ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, which are faster and more reliable than optical sensors. One of the standout benefits of ultrasonic sensors is that they work even when your hands are wet—a huge advantage over optical alternatives. Samsung has long used this technology to differentiate its flagship devices, though competitors have started catching up.
However, One UI software hiccups in previous versions sometimes caused the unlocking experience to feel sluggish. Fortunately, One UI 7 aims to resolve this by improving the animations, making the unlocking process feel much faster. Previously, many users had to disable the unlocking animations entirely to notice any real speed, but it appears that One UI 7 will address this issue.
What’s Next?
Ice Universe promises that the fingerprint unlocking experience will be much quicker than what users experienced with One UI 6, which is great news for those looking forward to a smoother experience.
The feature is expected to roll out in the next One UI 7 beta, which could be dropping in the next few days. Keep an eye out for updates as we get closer to its official release.
