Sony is permanently reducing the price of its PlayStation VR2 headset, bringing it down to $400, €450, and £400 starting in March. This marks a significant drop from its original launch price of $550, €600, and £530. The price cut also applies to the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which will now cost the same as the standard package.

While recent sales have already seen the PS VR2 dip below $400, this new pricing strategy gives retailers more flexibility to offer even steeper discounts in the future.
It’s hard to say what this means for the future of the PS VR2. Arguably, it was too expensive at launch, and at $400, it still costs more than the Meta Quest 3S, a standalone headset that doesn’t require a PlayStation 5 or PC to power it.
Sony has made some improvements, such as adding low-latency hand tracking, but overall, its commitment to the PS VR2 platform seems lukewarm. Major first-party studios haven’t released many VR-exclusive titles, and some that have—like the developers behind Horizon Call of the Mountain—have faced layoffs in recent months.
While a price drop could boost sales, it’s uncertain whether it signals a renewed commitment to VR gaming or a last attempt to move more units before support dwindles.
